Beliefs to Empower Your Life

Updated: Apr 4, 2021

The great Roman Emperor Marcus Aurelius said: "The happiness of your life depends upon the quality of your thoughts: therefore, guard accordingly..."

The way you think will shape your life experience. Even the hurdles you find along the way have value when you can see them. You can develop viewpoints and beliefs that will help you achieve more, thus, feel happier no matter what the situation might be.

Here I share some empowering beliefs for you to start using today (if you are not already doing it). They have the potential to transform your life through the power of positive thinking. However, even if "positive thinking" alone will not produce your goals, it is the first and most important step. You must want and work for the changes you wish to see and have. But positive thinking is the beginning.

Empowering beliefs that will make you smile.

Here I share some simple but essential pieces of advice that could help you find the loving relationship you desire.

1. I recognize my full potential. The ancient Greek aphorism states, "Know thyself," and there is profound wisdom in it. Get to know your inner strengths and your innate abilities. You will discover that you can achieve incredible results when you put your mind to it. Feel excited about reaching your immense, true potential!

2. I count my blessings. List each thing for which you are grateful. Keep in mind that every little thing IS a big blessing too. Suppose you include the smaller items, like a comfortable bed or homemade bread; now the "big" ones will become even more significant. Expressing your appreciation for all you are and have, reminds you of how rich you are.

3. I learn from my errors. When you consider your setbacks as teaching moments instead of a mistake, they will benefit you, and you will focus on the lessons they contain. "Failing" one job interview can lead you to avoid previous bumps, and learn how to ace the next one.

4. I find meaning in difficult moments. Trying moments can be the most rewarding situations of your life. Whenever you emerge from a challenge, it is with a deeper understanding and more remarkable courage. Think about the obstacles and tough times you overcame and take comfort in knowing that you can manage what is ahead if you resolved previous challenges.

5. I welcome change. Accept that life is constant flow; it is a series of changes. Focus on the present moment, and prepare yourself to adapt to whatever circumstances come your way. From Bruce Lee’s wisdom, I learned to “Be like water”. Just as a caterpillar cannot fly unless it leaves the cocoon, if you do not embrace change, you will not be able to express your immense potential.

6. I know how to dream big. Expand your wish list. Setting demanding but attainable goals will give you wonderful adventures to look forward to each day. As President Trump said, “If you are going to dream anyway, might as well dream big!”

7. I practice forgiveness. And I do it for my own sake! Free yourself by clearing away all the grudges and resentments you are holding from the past. They only HURT you and nobody else. Set reasonable boundaries, but respond with compassion when others disappoint you. Most importantly, forgive yourself first; remember that you did the best you could with the only tools you had. I am not saying it is always easy, but it is possible. Moreover, when you Love and forgive yourself first, it is much easier to do it for others.

8. I always give generously. I learned that Love is not Love until it is given away, or, shared! Sharing your blessings (like your Love) makes you more powerful and joyful. Volunteer in your community, speak kind words to others, say an unexpected “you look beautiful” to somebody, gift someone you meet today with a warm and genuine smile.

Empowering beliefs that motivate you to strive.

1. I take responsibility. Dr. Ihaleakalah teaches that we are 100% responsible for everything that happens to us. This is great! It shows us that you are in charge of your life completely. When you hold yourself accountable for the outcomes you create, you have a firm control of the results you produce. Celebrate the fact that you have the power to determine your future.

2. I apply effort. As you continue to know thyself, you will figure out what is your definition of success. Next, you will know what things or causes are worth your energy and commitment. Assess your progress and celebrate it! Always avoid comparing yourself to other people's endeavors or accomplishments.

3. I have identified my strengths. You have particular strengths, unique powers that you can draw on. Figure out with clarity that which you absolutely love doing, what you are good at, and determine what you want to do with certainty and precision. Let your inner knowledge guide your choices.

4. I take note of all feedback. Whether it is criticism or a compliment, all comments are beneficial. When used wisely, feedback will assist you in improving your performance as well as showing others that you respect their point of view. You grow faster when you gather solid input that you can translate into action.

5. I request help. Expand your capabilities by building a robust and solid support network. Brainstorm with colleagues. Solicit input from other professionals in your field. Share concerns with other parents. Divide household chores with your family. You will realize that most people love to be of service, they want to collaborate and help in many ways.

6. I connect with people. Emotional support and moral backing counts too. Surround yourself with loving and encouraging family and friends. Participate actively in your church or any faith community. Join a club with members who share your interest in meditation, hiking, solar power, baking, tango dancing, magic, or badminton.

7. I recognize opportunities. Stay alert for promising openings, for the doors to new endeavors, and open yourself to the opportunities that come your way. You might meet a new friend while you are standing in line to buy your morning coffee, or at the Courthouse as you serve your Jury Duties ;)

8. I try new things. Once I heard,“I shall try everything, even if only once”. Be like a child, open to experimentation, and you will discover real magic. Next weekend choose salsa dancing instead of paddle boarding; take a bike ride instead of golfing. Bake your bread, grow your tomatoes, or knit a scarf. You may find out that you have hidden talents and enjoy them more than you could imagine.
